FTC Pops: Rehearsal photos

Ki at DHPAC

Wow! I finally got someone to take a photo of me! As I mentioned on our FaceBook, I couldn’t risk a headshot, it would blow my cover as an embedded flutist!

Being in the FTC Pops band for the summer is like any other, compressed time, summer class. So, things are fast and furious. Fortunately, some of these folks have done a round or two in the band, and know some of the repertoire. Me, I am sight-reading like a banshee and flying by the seat of my embouchure! Still, having lots of fun.

What happened tonight? Conductor Karahalis confirmed the line-up for our first show. We established that the theme will be Broadway musicals. Professor Jeff Lipton stopped by for a preview. And, we found our groove on some of the newer pieces.

Our first concert is this Friday, June 11th at 7:30pm. It will be right on stage at DHPAC/Dix Hills Performing Arts Center. I am feeling honored that I finally get to perform on the stage where I have seen…Bucky Pizzarelli, Tierney Ryan, Kiley McDonald, Steve Briody, Mostly Moptop, and Shakespeare! Now, it’s my turn, even though I will be appearing as a humble, second flutist.

Below are some photos of my bandmates. There are lots more at our FaceBook page (to find us, you have to type in the whole name — Dix Hills Performing Arts Center). Continue reading

Some photos and thoughts from Guitar Extravaganza

Ki writes: Wow! I was able to see the second half of the Guitar Extravaganza/Salute to Tony Mottola show, and it was awesome! I will have a few video clips up on our fan video in the next week or so. For now, here are some photos:
