“Eagles Tribute” – This Friday, 9/10

by Steve Briody -

The new Fall season at DHPAC gets off to an incredible start this coming Friday night with an appearance by “Desert Highway”. What sets this Eagles-tribute band apart from others is their lead vocalists….you’ll definitely enjoy Joe Salucci ( a longtime friend of mine) as the “Don Henley” vocalist. Joe has sung on some of the most well-known TV jingles of all-time, and does such a great job in this show. The backup musicians are top-notch too.

This performance may sell out, so I recommend getting your tickets in advance.

Showtime is this Friday, September 10th, @7:30pm.

Hope to see you there!       -Regards, SB

Friday, July 23: Rolling Stone tribute at DHPAC

DHPAC Press Release, including a list of Rolling Stones songs, and the three phases of the band:

The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center
presents
Hits of the Rolling Stones
with
Streetfighter

Veterans of top original Long Island bands fuse a love of The Rolling Stones and outstanding musicianship to thrill audiences as can only one other band — the Stones themselves.  The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center will present an evening of the Rolling Stones by Streetfighter, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. Tickets at the door, or online: here.

Originally founded in 1978 as Long Island’s answer to the Broadway production of Beatlemania, Streetfighter was conceived to capture the music, spirit, and look of the world’s greatest rock and roll band, replete with period-correct clothing. The band plays songs from three distinctively major evolutions of Rolling Stones music, each with the same energy and style that made the originals so globally popular for so many years. The three phases they recreate are: Continue reading ‘Friday, July 23: Rolling Stone tribute at DHPAC’

While your relaxing…treat yourself to a show

Besides being all relaxing and festive, 4th of July weekend reminds me how fun it is to spend a summer evening being entertained in air-conditioned splendor. Why not use a few spare moments this holiday weekend to review the July schedule at DHPAC and sign up for a show or two at our wonderful, cozy (500 seats), air-conditioned theater? The smorgasbord of choices include: rock ‘n roll, comedy theatre, stand-up comedy, and a piano recital. How cool is that?

What do you like about Pink Floyd?

Project Floyd: A page from the DHPAC program

Ki writes: Of course, I mostly ask, because I wanted to tell you what I like about Pink Floyd!

I am so excited that while the original Pink Floyd is not touring now, I am able to catch a Pink Floyd tribute here at DHPAC/Dix Hills Performing Arts Center, with Long Island band, Project Floyd. And, I hear that the show is going to do justice to the way Pink Floyd performed, by having a spectacle of a light show. Tickets are $25, and available at dhpac.org.

Hope you will share what you like about Pink Floyd in the comments.

What I like about Pink Floyd is: Love a band that had a psychedelic stage. Gotta give credit to a band that put stuff out in the 1960′s, 1970′, 1980′s, and 1990′s. Whenever I get stuck somewhere un-creative, can’t help humming “Another Brick in the Wall” to myself. (That’s why I prefer working inside this wonderful, arts and music community at DHPAC/Five Towns College).

Hope you enjoy the music of Pink Floyd enough to leave a comment and/or come see the Project Floyd show on Saturday, June 19th!

Sat. May 8: Captain Jack toasts Billy Joel

Could you picture it? What would be in the Captain’s glass?

Anyway…

Please come to DHPAC/Dix Hills Performing Arts Center at Five Towns College tonight, Saturday, May 8th at 7:30pm. Billy Joel is a Long Island artist whom so many of us admire. Captain Jack is a band that turns those well-loved songs into a meaningful, group-listening experience. Tickets are $25.

Chronicles tribute to Eric Clapton: Friday, 4/30/2010 at DHPAC

DHPAC/Dix Hills Performing Arts Center presents
A Tribute to Eric Clapton with Chronicles
Friday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m.

Five-man veteran band recreates ‘Slow Hand’ hits from Clapton’s early discovery by Jon Mayall through his brilliant solo career— and everything in between

The Dix Hills Performing Arts center will present Chronicles in an authentic tribute to the career of blues/rock guitar legend Eric Clapton on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25.

Chronicles is a band intent on re-creating the music of Eric Clapton – from his early days with John Mayall and the Bluesbusters, the Yardbirds, and Cream to later stints with Blind Faith, Derek & the Dominos, up through his Grammy-winning solo and acoustic careers.

Aptly named for EC’s 1999 “Clapton Chronicles” anthology album, the band features veteran Long Island musicians George Clinton, Donny Waller, Bobby Simons, Ricky Panzica and Steve Stewart. Continue reading ‘Chronicles tribute to Eric Clapton: Friday, 4/30/2010 at DHPAC’
