The new Fall season at DHPAC gets off to an incredible start this coming Friday night with an appearance by “Desert Highway”. What sets this Eagles-tribute band apart from others is their lead vocalists….you’ll definitely enjoy Joe Salucci ( a longtime friend of mine) as the “Don Henley” vocalist. Joe has sung on some of the most well-known TV jingles of all-time, and does such a great job in this show. The backup musicians are top-notch too.

This performance may sell out, so I recommend getting your tickets in advance.

Showtime is this Friday, September 10th, @7:30pm.

Hope to see you there! -Regards, SB

Here’s the press release:
x
x

The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center presents…
The Music of Elvis with Steve Mitchell &
The Music of Tom Jones with Tim Conley
Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Artists faithfully recreate two of the sexiest and most dynamic male vocalists of the last 50 years live on stage in a Sunday matinee

The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center will present both Steve Mitchell as the late Elvis Presley and Tom Conley as the great Tom Jones, Sunday, August 1 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $25, available online: here.

Sitting on the loading dock at an electrical supply house where they worked in Memphis, the Burnett Brothers wouldn’t let the young truck driver join their doo wop singing because, well, he was a mere truck driver. That didn’t discourage
young Elvis Presley from cutting a record “That’s All Right Momma” at nearby Sun Records as a birthday present for his mother. Producer Sam Phillips heard the young man sing and the rest was history.

Overcoming tuberculosis as a child, and forced to work in a glove factory as a teenager to support his young family, few would have predicted that Tom Jones would ever have become an international star and a household name on several
continents – unless they heard him sing at a family gathering.

Now, The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center will recreate the magic of both stunning performers with the help of two talented performers who not only match the sounds of the original, but convincingly become them for an afternoon.

An Elvis Tribute artist for more than 18 years, Steve Mitchell has been part of the most successful Elvis tribute shows in Atlantic City, Memphis and Las Vegas, where Elvis spent much of his professional life at the Hilton, and has performed
as Elvis with original members of Elvis’ own band such as drummer DJ Fontana. In 2008, he won first place in the prestigious Lake George Elvis Festival. He has also appeared on local radio and cable, as well as NBC’s Today Show.

Tim Conley began his career at the age of 13 as – ironically – an Elvis artist. He has performed at venues across the U.S. as both Elvis and Tom Jones, and has appeared on numerous television shows. He has produced several successful
Legends shows throughout the East Coast. An accomplished musician, his ability to mimic Mr. Jones’ voice is matched only by his authentically sensual mannerisms and dance moves that will not disappoint die-hard Jones fans or
those who are just looking to enjoy an afternoon of rousing entertainment.

The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center
presents
Hits of the Rolling Stones
with
Streetfighter

Veterans of top original Long Island bands fuse a love of The Rolling Stones and outstanding musicianship to thrill audiences as can only one other band — the Stones themselves. The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center will present an evening of the Rolling Stones by Streetfighter, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. Tickets at the door, or online: here.

Originally founded in 1978 as Long Island’s answer to the Broadway production of Beatlemania, Streetfighter was conceived to capture the music, spirit, and look of the world’s greatest rock and roll band, replete with period-correct clothing. The band plays songs from three distinctively major evolutions of Rolling Stones music, each with the same energy and style that made the originals so globally popular for so many years. The three phases they recreate are:

1964-68: Chuck Berry & the Blues to psychedelic: featuring the hits “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” through “Ruby Tuesday.”

1969-73: Revolutionary & the Political: featuring the hits “Street Fighting Man” through “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”

1973-present: Still Rockin’! include, “It’s Only Rock and Roll, But I Like It”

The band Streetfighter includes:

Peter VerEecke, an original founding member who nightly recreates the dynamic and theatrical antics of Stones leader Mick Jagger. Pete thrills crowds with his energetic aura and authentic performance nuance.

Rev. Elroy P. Jones III, also an original founding member of the band. Jones plays lead and rhythm guitar and sings vocals. Originally playing the Keith Richards role in Streetfighter, Jones now covers the Brian Jones, Mick Taylor
and Ron Wood riffs. And, like his Rolling Stones idols, James has performed with the legendary Chuck Berry.

Mark Rothman: A member of the band since the beginning, Rothman has taken over the Keith Richards guitar parts, and helps to sonically and visually recreate the Stones’ sound & look. An expert on Keith’s music, antics and nuance,
Rothman’s meticulous attention to detail extends down to the very guitars played by the legendary rock and roll icon — even built by the same luthier, Ted Newman Jones.

Brad Singer: Despite the name, Singer powers the beat as the band’s own version of Stones drummer Charlie Watts. Without his rock solid “Sock-You-In-The-Gut” drumming, there could be no “ultimate stones show”. No stranger to
success, Singer previously co-founded Long Island band Full House with Streetfighter’s Bob Sole.

Bob Sole: Sole plays the Bill Wyman role in Streetfighter, playing bass and guitar and adding vocal depth. Providing the sonic bottom, Bob expertly arranges the vocal harmonies. Bob is also known locally for his current collaborations with
Brad, Elroy and Ruth in Rockdaddy.

Ruth Hopkins: Hopkins plays keyboards, so she plays the Chuck Leavell role in Streetfighter, recreating every acoustic and electric piano, Hammond B3 organ and orchestral parts with incredible sonic realism. She covers all the studio
instrumentation in a style that rings instantly authentic.

You can get tickets at the door, by phone, or on-line: here. (If you can’t make it tonight, there is a show on Saturday night, and one on Sunday afternoon.)

I am going tonight with my hubby. He has been teasing me all week about us going on a dating catastrophe. The organizer of the event, playwright John Blenn, says that, to his surprise, a lot of people actually do bring a date, to watch other people have excruciating dates on stage.

I hope to see a crowd of folks attend to support John Blenn, Middle Class American Productions, and all the new writers. There is always some extra excitement about a world premiere. Kind of like reality television for the theatre crowd.

For John Blenn’s special invitation to the show, see the video promo: here.
