“Eagles Tribute” – This Friday, 9/10

by Steve Briody -

The new Fall season at DHPAC gets off to an incredible start this coming Friday night with an appearance by “Desert Highway”. What sets this Eagles-tribute band apart from others is their lead vocalists….you’ll definitely enjoy Joe Salucci ( a longtime friend of mine) as the “Don Henley” vocalist. Joe has sung on some of the most well-known TV jingles of all-time, and does such a great job in this show. The backup musicians are top-notch too.

This performance may sell out, so I recommend getting your tickets in advance.

Showtime is this Friday, September 10th, @7:30pm.

Hope to see you there!       -Regards, SB

Did Elvis and Tom Jones ever perform together?

Steve Mitchell as Elvis

Well, in real life, they didn’t perform together on stage, but they were friends. And, evidently, they sang duets in Elvis’s private suite. (Story at Wikipedia: here.)

You can see this dreamy line-up at DHPAC on August 1st: Elvis and Tom Jones in one, high-energy, afternoon show!

Here’s the press release:

The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center presents…
The Music of Elvis with Steve Mitchell &
The Music of Tom Jones with Tim Conley
Sunday, August 1, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Artists faithfully recreate two of the sexiest and most dynamic male vocalists of the last 50 years live on stage in a Sunday matinee

The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center will present both Steve Mitchell as the late Elvis Presley and Tom Conley as the great Tom Jones, Sunday, August 1 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $25, available online: here.

Sitting on the loading dock at an electrical supply house where they worked in Memphis, the Burnett Brothers wouldn’t let the young truck driver join their doo wop singing because, well, he was a mere truck driver. That didn’t discourage
young Elvis Presley from cutting a record “That’s All Right Momma” at nearby Sun Records as a birthday present for his mother. Producer Sam Phillips heard the young man sing and the rest was history. Continue reading ‘Did Elvis and Tom Jones ever perform together?’

Friday, July 23: Rolling Stone tribute at DHPAC

DHPAC Press Release, including a list of Rolling Stones songs, and the three phases of the band:

The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center
presents
Hits of the Rolling Stones
with
Streetfighter

Veterans of top original Long Island bands fuse a love of The Rolling Stones and outstanding musicianship to thrill audiences as can only one other band — the Stones themselves.  The Dix Hills Performing Arts Center will present an evening of the Rolling Stones by Streetfighter, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. Tickets at the door, or online: here.

Originally founded in 1978 as Long Island’s answer to the Broadway production of Beatlemania, Streetfighter was conceived to capture the music, spirit, and look of the world’s greatest rock and roll band, replete with period-correct clothing. The band plays songs from three distinctively major evolutions of Rolling Stones music, each with the same energy and style that made the originals so globally popular for so many years. The three phases they recreate are: Continue reading ‘Friday, July 23: Rolling Stone tribute at DHPAC’

Ringo wants your help! Birthday wish for Wed. July 7th

Ki writes:

Today, Wednesday, July 7, 2010, is Ringo Starr’s 70th Birthday. For his birthday, Ringo asks that everyone — no matter where they are — flash the peace sign, and call out “peace and love”. You can read more about Ringo Starr’s birthday wish at the Liverpool Daily Post.

The DHPAC/Dix Hills Performing Arts Center community loves the Beatles. See a video of a recent Beatles show above. The end credits include local band Mostly Moptop performing Octopus’s Garden. We present many Beatles programs. Next one I see on the calendar is coming up in October. Though, check it out for yourself: here. And, note that a lot of people at DHPAC/Five Towns College slip Beatles songs into their repertoire.

While your relaxing…treat yourself to a show

Besides being all relaxing and festive, 4th of July weekend reminds me how fun it is to spend a summer evening being entertained in air-conditioned splendor. Why not use a few spare moments this holiday weekend to review the July schedule at DHPAC and sign up for a show or two at our wonderful, cozy (500 seats), air-conditioned theater? The smorgasbord of choices include: rock ‘n roll, comedy theatre, stand-up comedy, and a piano recital. How cool is that?
