Shakespeare on Long Island: Macbeth at DHPAC/FTC

If you search around the web, you will find articles lamenting the lack of Shakespeare: Not enough chances to see Shakespeare; and too many students who have never seen a Shakespearean play. Even more reason to come check out the Five Towns College Theatre Department production of Macbeth on April 15-18, 2010.

Brendan Cayton as Macbeth. Mary Jane Newmann as Lady Macbeth.

DHPAC/Dix Hills Performing Arts Center presents an updated version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This Five Towns College Theatre Department production of the classic Celtic drama is an ode to ambition and vanity. It will be staged April 15 to 18, 2010 at DHPAC on the campus of Five Towns College in Dix Hills, Long Island, New York. Continue reading ‘Shakespeare on Long Island: Macbeth at DHPAC/FTC’

Coming up at DHPAC…something for everyone

We often try to come up with lists or slogans to try to describe all the kinds of shows that we have at DHPAC/Dix Hills Performing Arts Center at Five Towns College. One phrase says, “FTC Rising Stars…The Best Regional Performers…and World Entertainers!” Our Executive Director, Sandy Hinden, writes, “At the Center you will find …’We Rock!’…’Broadway the Easyway’…’The Jazz Masters are here!’…and more….”  We tried to come up with a good summary when we created our category list on the sidebar. Though, we do so many events it’s hard to describe.

For instance…below are our five upcoming shows, including: theatre, comedy and music. Choose only the categories you like, or take a leap and explore something new.

“Beginnings” – This Friday Night

by Steve Briody

“Beginnings” is a phenomenal band who pays tribute to one of the most influential groups in rock’s history – “Chicago”. The band includes several of my friends/colleagues, so I have heard first-hand what an amazing job they do performing dozens of Chicago’s top-10 hits, which span an amazing 40 years. Please be sure not to miss this group’s top-notch vocals and horn section. “Saturday In The Park”, “25 Or 6 To 4″, “Colour My World”…..you’ll surely hear them all!

The show is this Friday evening, March 26, at 7:30pm at DHPAC.

Best, -Steve

This past weekend: DHPAC smiles at Spring, and Spring winks back

What a beautiful weekend on Long Island! It was the beginning of Spring, and the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center was prepared to celebrate. Here are some quick highlights of the three shows we presented this past weekend, including 2 videos, pictures, and FaceBook notes.  (And, check out the photo of the moon “blinking” at us from a beautiful, clear, sky on the day before Spring officially arrived.) Counting down the shows backwards:

Show 1: On Sunday afternoon, DHPAC presented “South Shore Syncopators, featuring Holly Sickinger”. For this show, we have a FaceBook report from some of the band members: Continue reading ‘This past weekend: DHPAC smiles at Spring, and Spring winks back’

Don’t Miss “Tribute to Bossa Nova” Friday

By Steve Briody

I (and many others) consider internationally-known Felipe Salles to be one of the finest saxophonist/composers today. It’s always been an honor to play with him, and now the Five Towns College community will get the chance to see him perform this coming Friday evening at DHPAC.

Be sure NOT TO MISS this show, as it is rare to see this kind of world-class musicianship on Long Island. Salles, his band, and vocalist Eleonora Bianchini will give one of the most impressive concerts of the year – authentically delivering many well known bossa nova classics.

I’ll be there….Friday evening 3/19. Show time is 7:30. Looking forward to seeing you. Best, SB
